Independent Living (IL) offers clients offer apartment-style settings. Clients will need to be able to manage their care without scheduled assisted needs but IL does offer services like medication reminders, laundry services, meals and transportation. Typically assistance is available if needed at an additional cost.
Assisted Living (AL) may be appropriate if our clients need assistance with activities of daily living (i.e, meals, medication management, showering, toileting, laundry, grooming, etc.). This care can be done in larger facilities where our clients can still have their own apartment and a facility nurse would establish an individualized plan of care to meet all of the needs. AL care can also be done in a small adult care home (ACH) and may be appropriate if our clients need more hands-on care.
If your loved one has been diagnosed with memory care challenges like dementia or Alzheimer's, then memory care may be the most appropriate setting. Memory care can be done in large facilities or smaller settings like a care home. The type of memory care needed can be determined through our assessment process. Memory care can accommodate behavioral needs, wandering concerns and challenges like "sundowning". All services offered in AL are also offered in memory care.
When a larger setting feels overwhelming or the goal is to have more personalized care in a home-type setting, an adult care home (ACH) may be a good option. Adult care homes are state licensed care facilities that have 10 beds or less and offer a residential setting that often feels more home-like than a larger setting. Facilities are usually locally owned and operated and can be more affordable and negotiable with cost.
